Tears of Joy

By | October 18th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

In a world of “no,” “Alice” received a “yes” and has hope again! When Alice came to Love INC she was hoping we could help her find a placement for an inpatient drug treatment program. She had gotten nothing but "no" answers from every place she had called for help. She was grateful for anything we could do for her, and after her one hour intake appointment, left Love INC with a pile of "yes" answers from us. She now has vouchers for several Church services where she can connect with Christians who can give her healthy guidance. To make things even better, while Alice was sitting in her intake, we got a call from a drug treatment program saying they would have a bed for her within a couple days. Alice left our office crying tears of joy. “Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’ But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the LORD, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.” – Psalm 3:2-6

A Glow From God

By | October 11th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

“David” has had a traumatic life; his friend died of cancer, he is going through a divorce, and his dad was recently hospitalized. When the stress and depression became too much, he attempted suicide. After recovering, David realized he does want to live, but with God to walk beside him in these tough times. He got back on track with the Lord and has a positive attitude, which shines through when you meet him. You can see Jesus on his face. Now David is working with Love INC, his church and local agencies to gain stability. He is searching for a job, his own apartment, and would eventually like to preach the gospel. Join us in praying for David that he continues this journey of stability and that he walks with the Lord the whole way through! “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” – Ephesians 1:7

A Creative Surprise

By | September 6th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

The Springs at Sherwood surprised us last month with a check from their Employee Jean Fund! What is the Employee Jean Fund, you ask? On Fridays they encourage their employees to wear jeans; in turn, they donate one dollar to the Jean Fund Jar. Once they collect $25, they donate to an organization of the employee's choosing. We are so grateful to be recipients of this fund, and very impressed with The Springs employees' creativity! “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men” Colossians 3:23

Young Life Volunteers Encouraged By Service

By | August 30th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

“Amy,” a Love INC client, was desperate for help on her local farm that she runs single-handedly. A group of guys from Young Life were able to answer her need for help and completed two jobs that were on her critical list! Amy was overflowing with gratitude: “I have just been feeling so overwhelmed this year. I can't even express what the help means to me. Thank you again, I appreciate [the volunteers] and Love INC so much.” Taylor, the volunteer leader, added: “It was awesome! I think [Amy] felt blessed and encouraged by the boys, and they were able to appreciate her.” It is incredible to witness God bringing our community together to not only meet essential needs of clients, but bless the volunteers serving as well. “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” - John 12:26

Remembering the Gospel

By | August 16th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

We recently conducted an intake appointment with a woman who is experiencing immense difficulty as she wades through trial after trial. For the past two years, her life has consisted of much relational strife due to a divorce, financial hardship as a result of losing her business, bouts of severe depression/anxiety and she struggles to see a way out of her situation. We did our best to provide her with as many resources as we could to help her see that there is a community surrounding her willing to offer the love and care she needs to get back on her feet. Towards the conclusion of our time together with her, our intake volunteer turned the conversation to the name of our organization, Love In the Name of Christ. It was shared that God’s love has been demonstrated to us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Rom. 5:8). God gave His one and only Son to die in our place, and we can have the hope of heaven and abundant life by simply trusting in what He has accomplished on the cross for us. Earlier in the talk the woman had shared that she was a believer. As the gospel was being spoken over her once more, she teared up and said, “Thank you…sometimes you just need to be reminded of what Christ has done for you. All of these resources are helpful, but they’re not what’s ultimately most important. I am feeling much more [...]

Resources to Restore

By | August 9th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

Love INC Executive Director Heath Placek recently gave a ministry update to the Newberg Ministerial Association at a picnic in Memorial park. During the time of fellowship and sharing, Pastor Irma from Red Hills Church shared an encouraging testimony about how she had referred a woman to Love INC to find out about low-income housing options available in the community. She reported that Love INC had provided this woman with a simple handout including all of the low-income apartments, and their approximate rental rates. With the help of the handout that individual was able to get into an apartment within a matter of two weeks! This is a great example of the success that can take place in someone’s life when churches utilize Love INC as a referral. We all are the Body of Christ working together! “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”- 1 Corinthians 12:12

Welcome, Karen!

By | July 31st, 2017|Clearinghouse|

Join us in welcoming our new Clearinghouse Coordinator, Karen Henry! Below is a brief introduction by Karen: I am so excited to be in this new role at Love INC. One of my biggest passions is outreach and I am a firm believer in the mission of Love INC. Part of my history with this organization is that I was the Non-Food Pantry Coordinator for several years when it was housed at Northside Community Church. Then for the past six years I was Office Manager at Northside, and as part of my job there I referred people in need to Love INC on a regular basis. These partnerships were a great springboard in helping me to understand and embrace what goes on in this very important ministry. On June 9 of this year I became an ordained Elder (Pastor) in the Free Methodist Church. My assignment through the Free Methodist denomination is as a volunteer pastor, and I serve alongside my husband, who was also ordained in June. We are the Recovery Pastors and Ministry Leaders for the Celebrate Recovery program. My family consists of my husband David (married for 31 years), our daughter Alyssa (28) who lives in Salem and is a nurse, our son Ryan (27) who lives with us and is a Security Officer, and our son Isaac (24) who lives with us along with his wife Krystael and our three grandkids, Riker (4), Leo (2) and Izzibelle (4 months). My grandkids are the light of my [...]

Farewell, Jaynani!

By | July 27th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

It is a bittersweet moment as we announce that our Clearinghouse Coordinator, Jaynani Cababat is leaving Love INC to pursue her Master's Degree at Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) in Massachusetts. Here are her thoughts on Love INC and the move: Even as I write this now, I sit here wondering if I'm actually ready to hit 'Send'. It has been an extraordinary blessing to be a part of this team at Love In the Name of Christ for the past year. Such a blessing that it is precisely why I know I am ready for this next season of my life. In a little less than a week, I will be transitioning out of my role as the Clearinghouse Coordinator. God has been revealing and placing new dreams on my heart, I will be moving out of Newberg and on to new adventures. I am forever grateful for this organization, our local churches, our staff and volunteers, and the many conversations with clients that have molded and shaped this past year for me. From George Fox to Love INC, this community will always hold a dear place in my heart. "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52:7 Our God reigns! And whether it's mountains or valleys in my near future, I trust and look forward to the places Emmanuel takes me next.

Opportunities to Share Jesus

By | July 25th, 2017|Clearinghouse|

Thank you to River Street Church of God for inviting Executive Director Heath Placek to come and share on Sunday, July 16th. It was a beautiful time of worship and celebration of what God is doing in Newberg! In addition to updating the congregation on Love INC’s ministry, Heath encouraged the body of believers at River Street to remember to view outreach activities as opportunities to share faith in Jesus with people. Below is an excerpt from his talk: “As Peter and John spoke with the lame beggar at the Temple gate, they wanted something greater for him than to just support him in his condition. They wanted to transform his life by the power of the risen Jesus Christ. They knew that the help he sought would have only made his lot in life more bearable, but it would not have released the redemptive work of Christ in his life, so they shared Jesus with him. As Christians, when we encounter the “lame beggars” of the world in our lives, and we don’t know how to help, remember that you have the ultimate gift to share, faith in Jesus Christ. Let us be a people who, like Peter and John, saw our interactions with people reaching out in time of need as opportunities to share the hope of Jesus Christ, and allow Him to transform people’s lives and our communities just as He did through the healing of the lame beggar in Acts 3. ‘Then Peter said, ‘Silver or [...]

Sincerely Grateful

By | May 17th, 2017|Clearinghouse, Gap Ministries|

We had a client come in who has just gotten out of a violent domestic relationship. She is homeless, staying for the time with a friend of a friend. She has four kids and is trying to find a job and a place to live. To say the least, she has a lot that she is dealing with. A volunteer told her about the dinners the churches have throughout town each night and was surprised when she noticed that tears were quietly streaming down her face. The volunteer wasn't sure what she had said....and asked if she was okay while getting her some Kleenex. She said, "These dinners. I am never sure what to do for my kids for dinner." She feels like she's imposing on her friend and is unable to use his kitchen. Of all of the things the Church could offer, helping her feed her children is the one thing that she needed the most. Sometimes we forget that this great work is impacting real people who are struggling through the hardest, most tender and vulnerable moments of their lives. They need Jesus and his People to lean upon. ”God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1
