Money Match Pays Out

By | 2016-03-10T06:06:10+00:00 March 10th, 2016|Relational Ministry|

In the Fall of 2015 Love INC launched an exciting new program: the Stewards of Hope Money Match Program. Stewards of Hope affords Love INC’s Relational Ministry participants the opportunity to receive matched funding towards savings used to pay off an approved debt or to make a critical household purchase. In order to reap the benefits of the program, students complete an application to the program and turn in weekly spending records at class to show their progress toward their goal. Once the participant has met his/her part of the savings goal, Relational Ministry staff verify the amount saved and release the matched funds from Love INC.  Payment of matched funds is made directly to debtors and/or vendors once the participant has made payment of their portion. We are celebrating our first payment made this week! “Laura” made two $50 payments towards two different debts during winter term and fulfilled all of our program requirements (attending class, completing her homework, filling out monthly spending sheets, etc.). We were able to match her debt repayment dollar for dollar. She is now motivated to continue slashing her debt and we look forward to matching her after this next term is over! Stay tuned for more great testimonies of God’s faithfulness to provide the financial means for Love INC clients! “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, 'Go, and come again, tomorrow I will [...]

Courage and Blessing

By | 2016-01-27T11:43:58+00:00 January 27th, 2016|Relational Ministry|

"Jenny" is a mentor in Relational Ministry, and her mentee "Emma" said one of her goals for 2016 was to have courage to go church. They talked about the churches in the area and found out that there is a church right in Emma’s neighborhood! And it turns out that one of Jenny’s former mentee also lives in that neighborhood and started attending the church after her time at Love INC. Emma’s plan is to set a date to go to church with her neighbor and hopefully start attending regularly.   But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another 1 John 1:7

Overcoming Challenges

By | 2015-06-17T06:07:44+00:00 June 17th, 2015|Relational Ministry|

“Felicia,” a former Relational Ministry client, is a student at the University of Portland. You may remember from a previous story that in order to get to school she spends four hours on public transportation. Since she did not have a computer she had to spend hours at the George Fox University library in order to complete her school work. Not too long ago Felicia was blessed by another client with a computer to do her school work on. That blessing has not been squandered, because Felicia had an amazing semester at U of P receiving all A’s. It is amazing to see how God has provided for Felicia and how He has helped her to overcome the challenges set before her. “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” -Matthew 36: 31-32 ESV

Return & Renewal to Faith

By | 2015-06-10T18:07:38+00:00 June 10th, 2015|Relational Ministry|

“Tina,” a former Relational Ministries client, was recently baptized at Newberg Church of Christ. This baptism comes after a long departure from her walk with the Lord. Tina’s return and renewal of her faith stands as a testament to us all. A testament that says that no matter how far you have strayed, no matter how long you have gone, you can always return to Christ. It gladdens our hearts to hear about our clients spiritual journeys, and we wish you the best of luck Tina! “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” -1 John 1: 9 NIV

Strength to Bless

By | 2015-04-22T06:14:34+00:00 April 22nd, 2015|Relational Ministry|

“Felicia,” a Relational Ministry client, is a student at the University of Portland and didn’t have access to a computer. She spends four hours on public transportation in order to get to and from school. Because she didn’t have a computer, she then had to spend hours in the library at George Fox University to do homework. This situation is less than ideal for a busy student with a challenging workload. Another Relational Ministry client, “Carmen,” was able to see how a personal tragedy could be used to help others. Carmen’s daughter recently passed away, leaving behind a computer. Carmen decided to bless Felicia by giving it to her. It’s amazing to see how God can give the strength to help others even in the midst of difficult times! “Seek the Lord and his strength; seeks his presence continually!” –1 Chronicles 16:11

A Word about God’s Word

By | 2015-04-08T21:34:31+00:00 April 8th, 2015|Relational Ministry|

As a Christian, one of the best ways to grow in relationship with God is to read His Word. Even though most Christians know this, it can still be a challenge to pick up the Bible and spend time listening to what God is saying through it. There is a constant need for encouragement to spend time in the Scripture. “Jennifer,” a Relational Ministry participant, shared that she has started reading her Bible, beginning in Matthew. She said it is a rewarding experience but she also finds it to be confusing at times. Other participants were encouraged by her dedication to spiritual growth despite the challenges, and they appreciated her honesty about it being a difficult task. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” -2 Timothy 3:16-17

Sharing the Gospel

By | 2015-04-01T17:58:02+00:00 April 1st, 2015|Relational Ministry|

“Amanda” recently experienced a situation in which God took something bad and used it for good. She had been waiting to hear back results from her doctor, fearing she was going to be diagnosed with cancer. During this time, Amanda was given the chance to share the Gospel with her neighbor, a young single mom. It had started as a texting conversation but led to meeting at her apartment and talking about Christ together. Amanda will be giving a Bible to her friend so that she can begin her faith journey. “Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” –Romans 10:9

Fall Term Graduation

By | 2015-01-07T06:00:29+00:00 January 7th, 2015|Relational Ministry|

On Thursday, November 20th, with the support of friends and family watching, eight Relational Ministry participants got up in front of class to receive their graduation certificates. A bittersweet ceremony commenced, with each person giving thanks to all in attendance and sharing briefly about how the program had personally impacted their lives. This class endured one of the more trying seasons we’ve seen in Relational Ministry. Despite financial hardships, marriage issues, illnesses, and deaths in the family, all eight stayed the course, showing up week in and week out for twelve months.  They invested in learning about financial management, organization, building healthy relationships, and nutrition. As a result many of them could reflect back and see God’s goodness every step of the way. To cap off the evening, several classmates brought in some delectable food items to be shared by all! Love INC is proud to say goodbye to one of their most memorable classes. “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”- James 1:12

Love INC is excited to announce that our Relational Ministry program will now be offering a new course to clients entitled “Work Worth,” beginning on December 4th.  The class will blend a Biblical theology of work with practical tools and resources to help people who are employed, unemployed, or unable to work have a better understanding of one of God’s greatest gifts to us. Some of the topics to be explored are creation and work, identity, attributes of a quality employee, workplace conflict resolution, gratitude, stewardship, perseverance, and pursuing career opportunities. If you or anyone you know is interested in taking this wonderful new class, please sign-up at the clearinghouse as soon as possible. “So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?”- Ecclesiastes 3:22

In it for the Long Haul

By | 2014-10-15T06:48:38+00:00 October 15th, 2014|Relational Ministry|

After a much needed summer break, Relational Ministry is back in action this fall, welcoming to the program 12 new participants and all 22 returnees from spring term. Love INC is encouraged to see so many clients remaining committed to one of the most powerful aspects of fulfilling our mission. The new participants are journeying through a Biblical approach to money management with Todd Hall, a local financial advisor.  Clients who are in route to graduate are receiving quality health advice from Karla McMellon, Certified Nutritional Therapist from the McMellon Center for Nutrition.  So far, both classes have really enjoyed the challenging material and are excited to begin applying the truths that they are learning into their daily lives. “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”- Proverbs 16:3
