New Laundry Service Now a Gap Ministry!

By | November 14th, 2017|Gap Ministries, Update|

Rock Point Church is happy to announce that they will be supporting a new Gap Ministry, Loads of Hope! They will provide free laundry service at Newberg Coin Laundry once a month. How did this ministry begin?  "This summer, I [Lisa] shared my interest in starting a laundry ministry with my friend, Julie, and she was very enthusiastic. She immediately went to work contacting the laundromat owner and networking with a church who has held laundry nights in the past." Lisa and Julie's passion quickly caught on with the leadership at Rock Point Church. They enthusiastically agreed to sponsor the ministry to make it an official Gap Ministry so recipients can access all of the other resources available in the community through local churches. "As moms we both do a lot of laundry and we felt it was a simple, realistic way we could help our community.  Being able to meet new people and build relationships by addressing a need that isn't going to change someone's life but might offer a little relief to people in a difficult situation has been humbling and is an honor." God is working in our community not only to meet needs, but also to build relationships that will lead everyone involved back to him! "Our hope is that through Loads of Hope we will continue to build and strengthen relationships with our new friends, keep sharing Christ's love with them through encouragement and prayer and connect them to other resources in the community."

April Update

By | April 18th, 2017|Update|

Spring is officially upon us. Resurrection Day has come and gone. With a renewed sense of Christ’s victory over death in our hearts and minds, we are marching forward confidently in this new season hoping to continue experiencing more of this abundant life Christ has promised us and looking for opportunities to share it with others. Now that a new season is under way, I wanted to give you an update on what is going on here at Love INC: Relational Ministry Spring Term of Relational Ministry kicked off on April 6th with eleven individuals participating in our Money Management course and nine in our Nutrition class. The Love INC Relational Ministry program is a place where participants attend a 45 minute class on money management or life skills, then spend 45 minutes in one-on-one or group discussion/mentoring. This term we are especially excited to share that Newberg FISH is partnering with Love INC to provide weekly $20 vouchers to Nap’s Thriftway for fresh produce/meat for our Nutrition class students. We are still in need of mentors to walk alongside folks as they learn biblical principles and life applications to their most pressing needs. Please pray about becoming a shoulder to lean on for spiritual support and encouragement, and a cheerleader for folks working on debt repayment goals. Clearinghouse The clearinghouse is the heartbeat of Love INC, where Christian volunteers serve on the frontlines, receiving requests for help, screening those requests for extent of need and legitimacy, and then referring [...]

March Update

By | February 27th, 2017|Update|

"I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Don't you see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland." Isaiah 43:19 "New things" is a favorite theme in the word of God, and it's a favorite theme at Love INC! When someone walks in our door for the first time, they don't just received a handout or help, they receive hope. We tell them God is doing something new in their lives beginning now! He can take them out of the wilderness, out of the dry place, and bring them into a place of refreshing, into new life. That's what I love best about this ministry – giving people hope that from that moment on, God begins a new work that will forever change their lives. I, too, am in a new place. As the new president of the Board of Directors of Love INC, I am excited to walk this path before me. After several years of service, Ken Cuddeford will be fulfilling his committed term and stepping down. We are so grateful for his dedication to Love INC Newberg and our community, and look forward to partnering with Ken in new and exciting ways. What a privilege it is to see those who come to Love INC take their first steps on the new path God has created for them! I look forward to serving this ministry and the awesome churches in our community that make [...]

February Update

By | January 30th, 2017|Update|

Dear Love INC Community, Confession: I am a big fan of the quote, “God is in the details.” Ever since becoming a Christian during my freshman year of college, I have resonated with the idea that God could care about every minute detail of our lives. It is not a burdensome reality that God is alive in every moment, calling us to Himself; it is an exciting opportunity to live the abundant life God offers us through relationship with Christ. And that is what we here at Love INC are choosing to embrace this year as we walk in the good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do (Eph. 2:10). It helps motivate us to look back on 2016, a year filled with ups and downs just like any other. We scaled a lot of proverbial mountains in 2016 but it was not the peak of the mountain that made it all possible, it was the climb, the journey getting there. And when we get a glimpse of where we’ve gone, we are encouraged that our every small step of faith and action mattered. I invite you who, however big or small, have contributed to the ministry this past year through volunteering time and energy, offering financial support, donations, and/or prayer, to see a visual representation of what you have accomplished through the following statistics. Enjoy a momentary glimpse of how far we’ve come, and let it encourage you as we move forward together. “Brothers and [...]

January Update

By | January 16th, 2017|Update|

Now that 2016 has come to an end and 2017 just begun, it’s a wonderful opportunity at the turn of a new year to reflect back on all that God has done with gratitude, and look forward in faith on all that God will do in the coming year. We want to first thank each and every one of you for your generosity during our year-end campaign. We saw our individual giving increase by more than 20% from last year! While it was a challenge to relocate our offices and experience a leadership changeover, God provided throughout the entire year. For example, we were surprised to learn that our overhead expenditures were actually lower at the new office, which will allow us to help our clients even more. This is clearly God’s grace and mercy that we have been rejoicing over for the past two weeks. Thank you to everyone who has ensured that this valuable ministry of God not only continues, but thrives through change and adjustment! As we look ahead to this year I want to briefly share what we hope to accomplish with your continued support. 2016 gave us so many encouraging signs of Jesus Christ at work in the lives of the community members we serve. We hope the following visions will bring that about even more: Grow accessibility for clients who are disabled or lack transportation Develop better resources to more effectively meet critical needs Improve relational connections between churches and clients Expand opportunities for [...]

December Update

By | December 5th, 2016|Update|

“Put your boots on, everyone, and grab a jacket! We’re going to cut down our Christmas tree!” We pile into the car and head for the hills, driving up the winding roads that lead to the top of the mountain where our favorite tree farm is located. We tromp through the narrow paths between fragrant firs, searching for the perfect tree. When everyone is finally in agreement, we all take turns with the saw and then we carry our tree down the hill, tie it to the roof of the car, and merrily take it home to decorate. To set the scene for the evening’s festivities, we make sure there is a crackling fire, Christmas music playing, and hot chocolate to fuel the decorating frenzy.  By bedtime, the tree is sparkling, the halls are decked, the stockings hung, and the windows lit.  Our house is ready...let the holidays begin! And then the Lord interjects, “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this House remains a ruin?” (Haggai 1:4). “What do you mean, Lord?” I pray in my heart, looking over the pretty scene in my cozy, paneled house.  Sitting down by the warm glow of the Christmas tree, I open my Bible and read about the Lord’s House.  It wasn’t being given the same attention as the people’s personal homes.  They were too busy in their own pursuits and pleasures to notice the neglect.  The Lord gently chides us, “Give careful thought [...]

November Update

By | November 1st, 2016|Update|

Dear Love INC Community, There’s just something about having a great group of people surrounding you both in life’s joys and its challenges… My name is Jaynani Cababat, and for the last two months, I have had the beautiful privilege of being a part of this Love INC team. In fact, it’s hard to even fathom how much I have seen, heard, taken part in, and learned in just these two little months. It can be daunting going through a season of many changes and transitions. That was true to me both in my personal life after recently graduating from George Fox University, as well as jumping into an overall season of change for Love INC. But one thing that can always make a heavy load feel a whole lot lighter is a community that welcomes you, burdens and all. I am grateful for this community who has welcomed me with open arms. So What’s New!? Just last week, Love In the Name of Christ moved down the hall into a more inclusive atmosphere. Yes, you heard that right, we moved again. But! We are still located in the same building, just in our own corner now rather than being spread out. And let me tell you… We are SO excited about this move. It means not only do clients get to walk into a more inclusive space that is solely for Love INC offices, but we also get to work in an environment where simply due to proximity we [...]

We Moved! What’s Different?

By | October 6th, 2016|Update|

Dear Love INC Community, Since our move in late August, certain questions have come up over and over again from both clients and volunteers about our organization’s policies. Many are simply wondering what’s different and what's the same now that we are in a new location. I want to give you a brief bullet list of the changes and the consistencies of the ministry as it presently stands: What’s the same: The Newberg Community Shelter is still in the same house. They have not moved. We’re still Love In the Name of Christ, a ministry bringing together local churches and coordinating their vast resources of expertise, talent and time to transform lives and our communities in the name of Christ. Our central clearinghouse, where we empower volunteers to receive, screen, clarify, and resource needs from the community is still our essential function. Jesus Christ is still transforming lives by unifying the body of Christ and putting Christians smack dab in the middle of the lives of those in our community who are hurting and reaching out for help. What's different: We occupy professional office space with other neighboring businesses. We’re no longer a central hub for donation drop-offs, due to lack of storage. We’ve been redirecting donations directly to our GAP ministries. This does two things: emphasizes our mission to mobilize local churches and saves donors time and gas money. We’re transitioning to being more phone–based as opposed to in-person to increase accessibility to clients. We still accept walk-ins! But, if at all possible, [...]

September Update

By | September 7th, 2016|Update|

Dear Love INC Community, With the ending of summer and a new school year just beginning, mixed emotions of excitement and anxiety are settling in for many of us. Whether you’re a teacher, student or a proud parent, one thing is for sure: everyone is hoping this upcoming year becomes one marked by incredible growth and transformation. In many ways, Love INC is experiencing the same feelings and rhythms associated with a changing over of the seasons. With our recent relocation and leadership transition underway, we are getting acquainted with new “classrooms” and a new “teacher”! It has been both challenging and rewarding. We can’t help but believe that God is on the move, turning over a new chapter in His plan to transform our lives and this community In the Name of Christ. As we yearn for transformation this year, I am reminded of the simple truth that the only agent of lasting transformation is the gospel. You never “graduate” from the knowledge that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and rose from the dead. The apostle Paul understood this best and we would do well to approach this changing season with the same mindset: “When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.  I came to you in weakness—timid and [...]

Transforming Newberg

By | August 10th, 2016|Update|

DEAR LOVE INC COMMUNITY, I love change! I love seeing how God disrupts and leads his people into deeper relationships through change. It seems that in moments of upheaval I feel God’s presence in more intimate ways than when I am coasting and all is stable. We often say to prospective partners, “when you join with us in the mission to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ, one of the lives that will be transformed is your own.” We see it every day and it is proof that the Kingdom of Heaven is coming and that our God is not willing to leave any of us in sinful stagnation. What’s more is that this incredible power of God to pull us forward as individuals also applies to organizations. Thus, we find our ministry in one of those exciting and transformative seasons of God’s holy, intimate presence pushing us forward. After twelve years of enjoying the generosity of Newberg Foursquare Church providing our clearinghouse to us rent free, it is time to move. We have secured a wonderful office space on Elliott Street right across the road from our local food bank, F.I.S.H. We are excited to have office space more suitable to our necessary administrative operations as we lean more deeply into God to provide the resources needed to pay rent for the first time. We will most likely move some time in August. This change has prompted great conversations with churches on the south side of [...]
