Thanksgiving Blessings

By | December 17th, 2014|Clearinghouse|

Once again Love INC was reminded of the thoughtful nature of our community when we were brought leftovers from the C.S. Lewis Thanksgiving Luncheon. We love that their instant reaction was to share when attendees found themselves with an excess of warm, delicious food.  Love INC was able to locate an elderly neighbor to receive the extra food, who reacted with grateful tears and words of thankfulness. We love being reminded of how blessings can occur when we least expect them. It never ceases to inspire us as we continue to see the way generosity has a tendency to trickle down from person to person. We are thankful!  “Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.”- Romans 15:2

Holiday Warmth

By | December 10th, 2014|Gap Ministries|

Our community has been incredibly blessed for the second year in a row.  Jeff, the owner of Enigma Photography, has been continuously generous with his time and talent, offering holiday portrait sessions for our clients and their families. He spent Saturday, November 22nd at the cultural center taking beautiful photos of twenty different families. Jodi Hansen, Executive Director, said it best; “They are so beautiful. There are stories of hardship and reconciliation and recovery and growth behind so many of those faces. Thank you so much for giving this incredible gift to our community.” We here at Love INC are constantly impressed by the love and support shown by our community and its businesses. Our appreciation, as well as that of our clients, shows no bounds. “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.  Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”- 1 Peter 3:3-4

Work Worth

By | December 3rd, 2014|Relational Ministry|

Love INC is excited to announce that our Relational Ministry program will now be offering a new course to clients entitled “Work Worth,” beginning on December 4th.  The class will blend a Biblical theology of work with practical tools and resources to help people who are employed, unemployed, or unable to work have a better understanding of one of God’s greatest gifts to us. Some of the topics to be explored are creation and work, identity, attributes of a quality employee, workplace conflict resolution, gratitude, stewardship, perseverance, and pursuing career opportunities. If you or anyone you know is interested in taking this wonderful new class, please sign-up at the clearinghouse as soon as possible. “So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?”- Ecclesiastes 3:22

Fire of God

By | November 26th, 2014|Clearinghouse|

A recent post from our Client Services Manager: After returning from coffee with my pastor this morning, where I had shared about all the neat things God does through my workplace, I was met by a single mom of a five-year-old boy whose apartment had just burned down. Even though she had lost all of her material belongings, she seemed to rest in the knowledge that she and her son were at least safe and able to take up temporary residence with a relative. As I navigated through ways we could help her, she made a request for toys and books for her son, becoming visibly upset as she spoke. I, too, became overwhelmed. Last night I had decided that my son’s room had amassed too many items and some of them just had to go. My wife and I, with our OCD in full swing, chucked as many bags of stuff into her SUV as we could. The plan was for her to take the items to a thrift store sometime during the week because Love INC doesn’t distribute children’s toys. God apparently had other plans in mind. My wife needed my car to drive to Corvallis that day so I headed off to work in her car. While meeting with the single mom I immediately remembered my son’s toys/books and led her out to my car.  I let her have whatever she wanted. She was so pleased to take mostly everything and was especially grateful for a children’s [...]

Grandpa and Son

By | November 20th, 2014|Gap Ministries|

Bill, our wonderful GAP delivery volunteer, recently had to pass his baton off due to a health issue. Our newest members, Gary and his young grandson Tyler, were able to assume his responsibilities in stride, and have become an essential part of our team here at Love INC. Their bright and smiling faces are a joy to see around the offices every Thursday, and the multi-generational aspect of their volunteered time is an inspiration to all. We have such an incredible group of individuals here at Love INC and we value Gary and Tyler's generosity of spirit and welcome them to our little family with thankful hearts.  “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children.”- Deuteronomy 4:9

Newness of God

By | November 19th, 2014|Shelter|

Since reopening, shelter hosts have repeatedly mentioned that there is something special about the shelter, and it isn’t the new furniture layout. Hosts have described the shelter as having “an exciting new feel to it,” “a different place” where the women “seem genuinely motivated to pursue their goals.” We agree and believe wholeheartedly that it’s because the Spirit of God is alive and at work in the shelter, producing hope in the lives of the women staying there. We are excited to share our very first success story: Head Start of Yamhill County recently welcomed back shelter guest “Meredith” as a volunteer! Meredith considers this opportunity an enormous answer to prayer and is eager to get back in the swing of doing what she loves most.  “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”- Isaiah 43:19

Dental Clinic Expanding

By | November 12th, 2014|Medical/Dental Clinic|

As of June, we have made significant headway in our dental clinic wait list, seeing all signed-up clients and even providing follow-up treatment for everyone that has needed it. All of this is thanks largely in part to the incredible work that our Dental Clinic Coordinator has done scheduling so many clinics. As a result, we were temporarily worried we would not be able to continue filling appointments at such an accelerated rate, until we realized that it was perfect timing to expand. Our Executive Director decided we could bless the Newberg community at large by extending the offer of free dental care to non-clients of Love INC (i.e. volunteers, church members, etc.) who do not have dental insurance. So far, at least a dozen members of the Newberg community have had free dental cleaning appointments and that number continues to grow. It is really amazing that we've been able to meet this need at such an incredible rate. Our hope is that anyone who is uninsured or underinsured in Newberg would take full advantage of this incredible offer of free, high-quality dental care. “And no one went in need of anything. Everyone who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles. Then they would give the money to anyone who needed it.” -Acts 4:34-35

Engaging in Relationship

By | November 5th, 2014|Gap Ministries|

Love INC has long held an outstanding partnership with George Fox University’s Spiritual Life Department. One of the key ways that we work together is by coordinating house cleaning or yard work opportunities for the James Project, a weekly service event that sends groups of students into the community to perform a wide variety of tasks for people who are in need.  Every time students visit our clients’ homes to help them out, we receive a flurry of calls afterward thanking Love INC for all of the help they received. In addition to helping people with a multitude of house/yard projects, students are able to share Christ’s mission and ministry by engaging in relationship with those they serve for a couple of hours at a time. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and we are very thankful to George Fox University and the students they supply! “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.”- Ephesians 1:15-16

Blessing in Disguise

By | October 29th, 2014|Shelter|

On October 1st the Newberg Community Shelter was reopened!  It has been a long and difficult process getting to this point, but God has been faithful and we are moving forward with overwhelming community support.  If we hadn’t had these trying circumstances we might not have been able to witness such an amazing display of God’s grace at work in our community. We’ve seen His healing in the abatement of bedbugs, His generous provision in financial and material donations, His wisdom in developing new shelter processes, His impeccable timing with the hiring of our dedicated new Shelter Coordinator, and His abundant love and protection for the women who were temporarily displaced during the renovations. As of October 7th, three women are living in the shelter.  Please pray that these women experience the transforming power of Christ as we invest more deeply in their lives. “For You have tried us, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined.”- Psalm 66:10

Pretty in Pink

By | October 22nd, 2014|Clearinghouse|

Last week our Wednesday receptionist, Terri, called one of our Hispanic clients to let her know that she could come in and get one of our smaller bikes with training wheels for her son.  The client ended up coming in with her younger daughter, who was brought along in order to try the bike on for size. Once in our garage, the little girl honed in on an even smaller pink bike that we hadn’t found a home for yet.  Terri couldn’t say no to the little girl’s newfound attachment and gave both bikes away to the family.  Terri reported back to us that it made her day to watch her ride it down the sidewalk to their car. “After all, [God]’s famous for great and unexpected acts; there’s no end to his surprises.” – Job 5:9
